This makes me ponder the consequences if Kogoro couldn't cover for his ineptitude here. The public finds out Kogoro can't tell the sleeping from the dead... and that all of his cases were casually solved by a boy... can't happen due to the demands of the plot of course, but interesting to think about how that scenario (and how Mouri would recover his 'honor') would play out.
